Fred Rushmore
Old Ratcliffian 1968-73
August 5th 1955-January 27th 2013
My brother, Frederick Anthony Rushmore died, aged
fifty-seven, in Kent. He was in born on August 5th 1955
in Croydon, the third of what became a family of seven
children. The family moved to Northamptonshire in 1958,
where Fred spent the rest of his childhood.
Fred went to Grace Dieu in 1965 and then to Ratcliffe in
1968. After taking a gap year in 1973-74 and travelling
extensively (including a tour of Europe with Old Ratcliffian
Mike Calnan (73)), Fred went to Reading University to
study Law. Fred’s career was in the financial world, starting
with stockbrokers Grenfell and Colegrave and then Laing
and Cruickshank, where he was made Director in 1988.
The 1990s recession led to Fred being made redundant
in 1991, but he made good use of his free time, learning had started to become apparent the year before. Fred
