The Old Ratclifan 2012 | Introductionhe Old Ratclifan 2012 | Ratclifan Association Sports Events T The Ratcliffian Association Taylor Mixed Hockey Cup Sunday 9th September 2012 Old Ratcliffians: 2 Ratcliffe College: 2 On Sunday 9th September, the Old Ratcliffian team played a mixed hockey match against the 1st XI current students. The game was closely contested and both teams had strong attacking movement. Despite a lack of fitness on the part of some Old Ratcliffians, their skills remained as they were able to push forward, beating many players. After some well worked attacking play and good performance from Andrew Yell (82), the Old Ratcliffians were on the score sheet. The current students were determined not to lose; after a series of quick passes, they flooded the ‘D’ in full force and Fred Notman squeezed the ball in from the base line to put Ratcliffe back in contention. In the third quarter, the current students began to gel more as a team and found their rhythm, resulting in an excellent goal worked from the back to allow Eleanor Thomas to have a one-on-one with the keeper and put Ratcliffe into the lead. The ORs kept fighting and superb defending by James Montgomery-Stuart (10) and James Taylor (02) Back row L to R: Tom Allen, James Montgomery-Stuart (12), halted any efforts of the current students, despite Charlie Toby Howard (11), James Waddington, Krishna Naidu (99), Dolan and Dom Warne’s persistent waves of attack. In James Taylor (02), Andrew Thomas (85), Andrew Yell (82) & the final quarter, the ORs gained momentum; with the Toby Nutter (08) Yell and Foulds families all on pitch, they were a force Front row L to R: Alice Foulds (11), Hayley Marvin (12), Laura Yell (11), Rebecca Pawley (12), Sarah Kerridge to be reckoned with! They kept possession well and were (12), Charlotte Dickinson (12), Sophie Yell (10), Sophie reluctant to give the current students any time on the ball; Montgomery-Stuart (10) & Georgina Kerridge (12) this resulted in one final goal scored, to make the final score 2-2. Around one hundred cyclists from Ratcliffe joined supporters from Oakham and Loughborough Endowed Schools as they battled it out in gruelling weather conditions to raise money for the Leicester Hospitals’ Our Space Appeal and each of the schools’ Foundations. Many Old Ratcliffians joined staff, parents and friends who completed the one hundred mile cycle route around Leicestershire and Rutland. The event raised over £10,000 for the various charities involved, so a big thank you to all of you who kindly supported the event.
