The Ratcliffian Association Ladies’ Netball Cup
Sunday 10th March 2013
Old Ratcliffians: 21 Ratcliffe College: 24
The School’s 1st Team held off the might of the Old
Ratcliffians, 24-21, despite the School supplementing the
OR’s team. The ‘oldies’ showed that they had lost none of
their skill level or tactical awareness, but the 1st Team kept
their noses in front. Both teams moved the ball around the
court well and, despite not playing netball regularly, the
‘oldies’ maintained a high level of play. All four shooters,
Rose Borrajo (13), Sorcha Grant, Roxy Hayes (09) and
Emma-Grace Roberts (11) missed very few goals and
Hannah Tyler (11) showed that she was as tenacious as The Ratcliffan & Old Ratcliffan teams
ever in defence, along with Katie Gerighty (11). Rachael
McMillan (09) and Gemma Taylor (01) linked well in this augurs well for the ORs next year. An end-to-end
centre court and the 1st Team had to raise their game competitive game was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The Grand Match was played in
splendid sunshine, with the College
needing a win to regain the trophy.
Tom Foulds (07) and Freddie
Bainbridge (08) had other ideas,
batting the Old Boys to a commanding
total. In reply, the College lost regular
wickets and were unable to push for
victory, finishing on 159-9. With the
game ending in a draw, the Old Boys
therefore retained the trophy they won
back two years ago. Jon Reddin (Senior Deputy Head)
