Celebrating Sixty Years as Rosminians
On 15th September this year, three Rosminian priests
gathered at Ratcliffe to celebrate sixty years as members of
the Institute of Charity.
On 15th September 1953, John Bland (53), Peter
Reynolds (53), Michael Hill (49), John Daley and five
others joined the Rosminian novitiate at Wadhurst in
Sussex. Peter Reynolds is in a nursing home in Cardiff,
where Michael and John had the first of two Jubilee
celebrations.
Unable to be with them in Cardiff, Fr John Daley joined
his fellow Jubilarians, Michael and John, at Ratcliffe for
this special day. They concelebrated Mass in the Chapel,
following which the College hosted a delicious luncheon for
them and their invited guests.
Other priests who joined the Order with them in 1953
but who have subsequently died are: Eugene Monaghan
(53), Chris Smith, Joe Hassett, Michael Waters (53) and
Michael Hare (51).
John Bland and Michael Hill have spent most of their
ministry in New Zealand. Peter Reynolds and John Daley
have been in various parishes around the UK. All four had
been on the staff at Ratcliffe early in their careers. Fr John Daley, Fr Peter Reynolds (53) (in the photograph

Update on the Tilinanu Orphanage in Malawi
The Tilinanu Orphanage in Malawi, a charity founded by
Old Ratcliffian Alice Pulford (07), continues to go from
strength to strength. This year, Tilinanu (which supports,
feeds and educates thirty-four girls and feeds one hundred
and seventy-five community orphans daily) has extended its
outreach programmes even further! Diploma programmes
have also started recently, providing the girls at the
orphanage with further education. Three boys’ foster homes
are now up and running and, only last month, work was
completed on the construction of Mkunkhu School. This
school is set to educate nine hundred children in rural
areas.
The link with Ratcliffe College remains strong, as it
does with Grace Dieu, where the children donated 198
kilograms of old school uniforms. There were proud faces
and huge smiles as the uniforms were distributed at
Mkunkhu School!
Their outreach programmes also continue, as they rebuild
homes for the elderly and offer medical advice and
assistance; 85,000 people have received vaccinations.
To help facilitate greater change, Alice, along with her
sister, Nina, have set up a foundation called ‘The Love
Support Unite Foundation’. Their aim is to offer diverse
volunteer placements to young people in all areas, from
building and teaching to medicine and media. If you are
interested in a volunteer placement, go to www.lsu.live.
