Members of the Class of ‘68 Revisit their Alma Mater

Ratcliffe College
Setting foot inside our old school
fifty years after our starting term
was always going to invoke strong
emotions. That initial anxious feeling
as you neared Ratcliffe and drove
up that familiar tree-lined drive to
start another boarding term was still
there. As always, it quickly dispersed
upon meeting familiar faces in the car
park. No longer carrying tuck boxes,
immediately recognisable, but looking
a little more time-weathered, I was
greeting inmates, some of whom I’d
not seen for an intervening period of
forty-five years: Denis Desmond (68),
Michael Evers (66), Patrick Farrelly
(68), Conal O’Donnell (68), Stephen
Moorhouse (68) (communicating by
text) and Michael Shipster (68), who
