28 RATCLIFFIAN ASSOCIATION EVENTS
THE RICHARD HUGHES T20 CRICKET
MATCH & AFTERNOON TEA
After lunch, everyone went outside to watch the Richard Hughes Lee Buckby (97) with Rik Hughes John Plumb (53)
T20 cricket match, which was organised by the OR cricket captain,
Ben Stephens (96). He had drawn together enough players for
two teams, so the match was played between the ‘Oldies’ and
the ‘Youngsters’ - the ‘Oldies’ won! There were also tours of
the School, which were led by Andrew Yell (82), as well as a tour
of the Rosmini Centre. Edward McCall also performed a short
recital in the Chapel, playing well-known classical pieces on the
newly-restored organ. Meanwhile, afternoon tea was served in
another marquee on the Cricket Square, where guests mingled,
exchanging memories of their past days spent in Ratcliffe in the
warm June sunshine. All in all, it was a fantastic way to celebrate
such an important occasion in the history of both the Association
and the College.
On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone who has Afternoon tea by the
helped me to organise this huge event - in particular, Louise Cricket Square
Liston and Andrew Yell in the Development Office, Helen Baird
(14) (who was fortunately on a work placement week with the
Development team in the run up to the event), Alex Slack (née
Gamble) (03) for all her event management advice, the catering
staff, Shaun Walker for helping with the setup of the bars, the
team of Year 12 and Year 13 leavers, the photographer, Gianluca
Misso (15), and also the videographer, Alex Butler (14), whose
film of the weekend can be found on the Ratcliffian Association
website. I would also particularly like to thank Gareth Lloyd and
his Senior Leadership Team for supporting me in the planning of
the weekend, and for allowing us to hold this event during the
busiest part of the school year.
