On a beautiful, sunny afternoon in March, Old Ratcliffians and
their friends returned to Ratcliffe for this year’s event. It was a
great honour to welcome David Thistlethwaite (50) and his son,
Mark (78), back to Ratcliffe. David, who was a talented hockey
player in his day, had donated the Thistlethwaite Hockey Cup
to the Association, and so it was very appropriate that he was
there to present the trophy to the winning team after the game.
The match was also particularly significant, as the recent Astro
Appeal, launched by President, Mike Meredith (89), in January
is to raise funds for the resurfacing of the existing all-weather
pitch. David Thistlethwaite was responsible for instigating the
original appeal to build the pitch for the 150th Anniversary of
the College back in the early ‘90s.
