Jaideep Nanwani Lachman (87): “After I
left Ratcliffe, I returned to Spain and read called Smart Recruit Online and it helps
Law at Barcelona University. Since 1996,
I have had my own private legal practice,
specialising in Private International Law.
Married to Divya in 1999, we have two
children – Rahul, who is fourteen years
old, and Rohit, who is nearly twelve. I have promotion and display design company,
a profile on LinkedIn if any of you would
like to get in touch. I cherish the memories one of the fastest-growing companies
of my two-year stay at Ratcliffe!”

Hollie Stone (07): “For the last four and
a half years, since finishing university at
Leeds, I have been working for Macildowie,
a recruitment business in Leicester, where
I now lead a small team. As a side project
and for something a little different, I
also hire out vintage china and props for
weddings and other special events. The
collection started several years ago, when
hosting annual afternoon tea fundraisers
to support Alice Pulford’s (07) African
orphanage, Tilinanu, in its early years; the
collection has continued to grow, now
allowing us to cater for up to 150 guests!”
Julian Orford (62): “I completed a degree
in Civil Engineering and have lived in Cape
Town for the last forty-two years. I also
own a small construction company. I have
been married to Wendy for forty years
and have three children – two sons and a
daughter. My sons live in Cape Town and
my daughter lives in London.”

Mark Stephens (88): “I am building
technology solutions for the recruitment
marketplace, and we are about to start
looking into establishing an office in

Santa Clara in the USA. Our product is
companies to do all their own recruitment
in house; it’s smarter, faster, and keeps
things at the lowest possible cost. My
brother, Richard Stephens (90), has
just won another Gazelle Award for his
Mintpad, and it has been recognised as
in Denmark. Ben Stephens (96) runs a
successful design and print business
called M-Print in Leicester, and Michael
Stephens is the Head of Digital Design at
Liberty, the London department store.”
Basil D’Oliveira (44): “Due to limited
mobility and transport issues, perhaps
the greatest disappointment this year
was my inability to participate in all the
wonderful celebrations taking place at
Ratcliffe. It simply was not practical to
attend. The organisers of such an event
deserve great credit.” (Basil has included
a Christmas greeting - a cartoon of his
precious Comet, which he used to fly as
part of the RAF Transport Command.)

Holly Allison (12): “I have just graduated
from university and I am currently
fundraising to travel to Malawi to teach
people there about HIV and AIDS. I am
going at the start of October with a
charity named Progressio, which was
founded by Catholics in response to
the amount of poverty that they saw
in the world. Progressio is part of the
ICS (International Citizenship Service),
which is a government-funded initiative
that sends 18-25 year olds to areas
of the world that need help. It helps
developing countries and communities
to improve their lives through the sharing
of information and skills. While I am in
Malawi, I will be working with a team
of local volunteers, as well as other UK
volunteers. I have been set a fundraising
target of £1500 and, in order to meet
this, I will be doing a 10k run, along with
organising a coffee morning and possibly

a quiz night for this very worthy cause.

“I am married to Ben Tebbutt and have
four children. I’m currently on maternity
leave; however, I work with my brothers,
Patrick (85) and John Atkinson (87) in
the family businesses, Semloh Electrics
and Crusader Products.”

Old Ratcliffian and Past President of the
Ratcliffian Association, Leo Simmonds
(49), has been awarded Life Membership
of the Catenian Association for his
considerable contributions over many
years. Over fifty years ago, Leo was
enrolled into the City of Westminster
Circle, whose then president was Allan
Davies, who was later to become Lord
held numerous roles, including Circle
President, Secretary, Provincial Councillor
and Circle Chamberlain, a position he still
holds today. Whilst serving a successful
tenure as Editor of the Catena, the
magazine for the Association, Leo
founded a Bursary Fund by asking for
annual subscriptions from members. The
aim of this fund was to help secure young
people to do good works, helping self-
development and Christian communities.
Leo served as Chairman of the fund
from when it was officially established
in 1990 until May of this year, when he
retired from the position. In Leo’s own
words, “It’s been a privilege to serve, but
all good things have an end. It is one of
my principles that I never volunteer to do
anything. If others think I can be of use,
then I find it difficult to refuse.”
