10 NEWS FROM THE COLLEGE
LEAVERS’ DAY
FRIDAY 27TH MAY 2016
This year’s Year 13 spent their final day together at Ratcliffe 1
on Friday 27th May, and a fine celebration it was! The students
were all given their yearbooks and wore their coloured ‘Class of
2016’ hoodies. There was a barbecue at lunchtime, as well as fun
activities, such as zorbing and big inflatable games to enjoy in
the afternoon.
After lunch, there was a special Leavers’ Mass, which was
prepared by Paul Michel, the School Chaplain, in conjunction with
the students. The Association President, Mike Meredith (89),
and Headmaster, Gareth Lloyd, presented each student with a
gift from the Ratcliffian Association: an Old Ratcliffian tie for the
boys and a solid silver charm engraved with the Ratcliffe crest
for the girls. The Mass and presentation symbolise the students’
transition from Ratcliffe College pupils into Old Ratcliffians. This
day marks the start of a new beginning for everyone. 2
Twelve students joined Ratcliffe in the Nursery, twelve at the
start of the Sixth Form, and fifty at various times in between. It
is of great credit to each individual that, as a group, they have
achieved so much. In a host of different ways, they have proved
to be very positive role models for the younger students, and
sources of inspiration and support for one other as they have
faced the inevitable challenges of A Levels. The happy, smiling
faces in these photographs were not just for the camera, but are a
true reflection of the friendships formed and happy experiences
shared by these students.
