THE RIK HUGHES INTER-SCHOOL CRICKET CUP
VS LOUGHBOROUGH GRAMMAR
SUNDAY 13TH AUGUST 2017
The Old Ratcliffian side hosted the Old Loughburians in the
first game played for the repurposed Rik Hughes trophy. The
Grammar won the toss and chose to bat on the wicket that
looked as if it might offer the bowlers some help. However,
the OR bowlers struggled to find a good line and length, and
Jack Beresford (24) and Charles Kindleysides rarely looked in
any trouble, putting on 67 for the first wicket. Beresford was
eventually bowled, but Kindleysides and Danny Murty ploughed
on regardless, taking the score past the 200 mark before
Jack Nightingale had Murty caught by Toby Smith (16) for 75.
Eventually, the Old Loughburians finished their 40 overs on
236-2, with Kindleysides 101 not out.
The OR batsmen found the bowling of Ed Bird (3-23), Vimal
Lodhia (2-28) and, most significantly, Ed Collins (4-25) hard
to cope with, as they slumped disappointingly to 59-8. Jack
Nightingale scored 25 before being ninth man out, and it was left
to Tom Allen (13) to top score for the home side, making 35 from
just 24 balls to get the ORs past the 100 mark, as they finished
102-10. Although a 125 run defeat for the Old Ratcliffians was
conclusive enough, both sides certainly enjoyed the game
