REMEMBERING BRENDAN MCCABE (00)
SATURDAY 18TH JANUARY 2020
A beautiful memorial service was held at Ratcliffe in January to mark the twentieth anniversary of
Brendan McCabe’s (00) passing. Brendan attended the College until 2000, when he was tragically
killed in a car accident on 14th January of that year. Brendan’s family, along with many of his classmates,
returned to Ratcliffe for the service, where they were able to share happy memories of their time at the
school and talk about the impact that Brendan had made on their lives.
Sister Anna Patricia led a beautiful service in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, after which candles were lit
and a prayer was said at Brendan’s graveside. A bouquet was placed there by David Yau (00) on behalf
of all of Brendan’s old friends who were unable to attend. Following a short walk to the front of the
College, the guests assembled once more by Brendan’s memorial fountain to share stories of his time as
a Ratcliffe student. The McCabe family appreciates greatly that Brendan’s memory lives on at Ratcliffe
through the symbol of the fl owing fountain in front of the College, and amongst his thoughtful friends
from his schooldays.

INSIGHTS FROM A MUSIC VENUE OWNER
In February 2020, Elisabeth Carley-Leonard (10) spoke to Ratcliffe students from Years 12
and 13 on the subject of running their own businesses, managing events, and utilising social
media marketing effectively. She shared with the students her own experiences of breaking into the music industry and becoming a
lighting and sound engineer. As the owner of The Shed, a music venue in Leicester, Elizabeth was happy to take questions from the
students and give real-life examples of working in this exciting industry. We would like to thank both ORs for taking time out of their
busy schedules to support this important initiative.
