RATCLIFFIAN ASSOCIATION EVENTS
The London Christmas Drinks Party
Tuesday 4th December 2012
Thanks to the generous hospitality of
Robert Forstner (72), we were able
to hold an Old Ratcliffian Drinks Party
amidst an array of spectacular sports
and vintage cars in his Excalibur
Showroom on Park Lane in Mayfair.
So spectacular were the vehicles on
display that keen car enthusiasts
were spotted through the window
taking photos of the cars – I thought
it was because they were trying to
photograph members of the Ratcliffian
glitterati! One of the cars, which Gianpaolo Mantini (95)
& David Haigh (95)
Robert had just purchased that very Mr & Mrs Henry Cheong (66)
day, was originally the property of the
King of Rwanda – a real talking point!
The event was very well attended by
ORs from London, the Home Counties
and Leicestershire in particular.
Gareth Lloyd and Abe Mee (92) both
welcomed their guests and thanked
Robert for his hospitality. The party
was so successful that another has
been planned for December 2013.

The Ratcliffan Association London Dinner
Friday 22nd February 2013
The Crypt, St Etheldreda’s, Ely Place, London
The London Dinner took place in
the usual venue, with high-quality
French cuisine, delicious wines and
aperitifs provided by the Bleeding
Heart Restaurant. With a ticket price
of under £60, it was a bargain night
out in London! The Association owes
a debt of gratitude to St Etheldreda’s,
which opens its doors to Old
Ratcliffians every year for this flagship
event under the generous patronage of
Fr Tom Deidun (62), the Rector of St
Etheldreda’s.
The evening started with a Mass in
the historical and beautiful church at
St Etheldreda’s, led by Bishop John
Arnold (71). Following the Mass
(when the latecomers had arrived from
Ye Olde Mitre Tavern next door!), the
evening continued with champagne
and canapés. The dinner was attended L to R: Mary Reeves, Brian Coe (60), Alasdair Macmillan (58) & Tim Gamble (62)
