         THE RATCLIFFIAN ASSOCIATION RETREAT

         FRIDAY 1ST - SUNDAY 3RD APRIL 2016

1 We assembled at the Rosmini Centre on Friday 1st April, to be
met by Fr Binu, having been supplied with his very useful CV.
Eleven of us stayed for the full weekend and six attended on the
Saturday only. Some of us were Old Boys and some had never
                                                              attended the Retreat before.

The theme was ‘Mary’, ‘Rabbuni’, ‘Do not be afraid’, ‘Go’. We
enjoyed an Easter encounter with Mary Magdalene. Fr Binu
gave us all a most useful sheet with a somewhat difficult title:
‘Paradigms Power Perceptions, Perceptions Power Emotions,
                                                              and Emotions Power Actions’.

We spent some considerable time reading John 20:1-18 aloud
2 and then to ourselves. I felt that, with Fr Binu’s help, we really
learned about Mary’s place at the tomb, possibly through his
request that we switch off our mobile phones for the whole
                                                              weekend!

We stayed at the Centre, but ate at the College. The food was
very good, and one old ‘retreater’ provided several bottles of a
quite adequate claret for the festive board.
Sadly, we heard subsequently that one Old Boy, John Doyle (62),
had died. Tim, one of his two sons who attended, said in an email
that ‘visiting Ratcliffe College again was like coming home to
Dad, and he was so glad that he managed to make the Retreat.’
1 The eleven that stayed for the whole weekend
2 Saturday in the Rosmini Centre as the Retreat began John’s obituary can be found on page 55.
