beautiful summer’s evening at the end of term. Old Ratcliffians superb term at Ratcliffe.
came from all corners of the globe, including India, Qatar,
Columbia, and Manilla, not to mention from various parts of the
United Kingdom and Europe.
The evening started off with a private event for those ORs who
were celebrating an anniversary year of leaving Ratcliffe. Drinks
and canapés were served to the Classes of 2006, 1996, 1986,
1976, 1966 and 1956, so that they could converse with each
other and catch up before the start of the Ball.
The main event was held in a huge marquee near the Fountain
Lawn, which looked stunning, adorned with bunting, balloons
and flower arrangements.
Following a warm and welcoming speech from the Headmaster,
Fr Ted Mullen (60) said grace, and guests were then seated for
a four-course meal. Provided by Browns of Loughborough, this
consisted of smoked mackerel pâté with tartare salsa, followed
by parma ham-wrapped chicken with crushed new potatoes and
a vegetable parcel. For dessert, guests were treated to a trio
of puddings: a lemon posset-filled chocolate cup, strawberry
pavlova and a chocolate brownie. Finally, guests helped
themselves to a selection of cheeses and biscuits - if there was
any room left!
Soon after dinner there was a raffle, with prizes including a
limited edition framed print of Ratcliffe, a pair of Ratcliffe
enamelled cufflinks, a meal for four at Browns Lane, and our
star prize, a magnum of Laurent Perrier Rosé Champagne.
The raffle raised a fantastic £920 towards the Ratcliffe 2020
Sports Appeal.
After the raffle, a live band - The Mixers - began to warm up the
dance floor. By the end of the evening, not only had there been
some fantastic ‘dad dancing’ displayed, but some of the lively
guests had also been invited up to serenade the room, joining
